seo I know that as we move along in our internet marketing, niche marketing and SEO strategies we can get so well versed in the e-jargon that we forget the little things. So I, for one, think that it’s time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak, and get back to the fundamentals of basic niche marketing that we may have neglected. These tips do seem obvious, but they are not to be taken for granted as they are some key building blocks of SEO to make sure that you are not leaving any stone unturned in your quest for ranking your site high in the search engines. Here we go!

1. Deep Linking: If you have links coming in to as many pages as possible of your site, it is telling a search engine that you have a lot of valuable content since links are going to the many different pages of your site. Conversely, it will seem you have a site with weak content if all of the links to your site are only going to your home page. It can even imply that your links are automated and not based on the quality content of your site. Not good at all.  Not only will this build overall authority for your site, but it will also to help you to rank well for long-tail keywords that are on your inner pages.

2. Internal Linking: Not only should you get links to your internal pages from other websites, but you should also link to your internal pages from within your own website.  A perfect example is in the previous paragraph.  We link to our previous post about ranking well for long-tail keywords.  This serves a few purposes.  1) Readers of this post can click the link, and they’ll stay on our site longer.  2)  It allows Google’s spider to better index our website. and 3) It allows me to pick the anchor texts for the link to that page, allowing me to rank for the keywords I am aiming for.

3. Article Exchanges: We all know about link exchanges, and article exchanges follow suit, but the only difference is that they can be more useful to you. If you publish an article from another site on “the top silver bracelet styles”, and they in turn can publish your article on their site about new jewelry trends in jewelry design, then you are both gaining content as well as higher quality links. This is a great way to build connections and communicate with people in your marketing strategies, all the while gaining great links back to your site.

4. Make Sure Your Key Search Terms are Written in Text: Pictures are the best way to catch someone’s eye and make your site more attractive, but search engines don’t read pictures, so you need to also type out your keyword along with your pictures, such as “diamond necklaces”, and perhaps include a keyword description to go with your text title.

I hope these basic, but often overlooked SEO tips have helped you fill in all the gaps in your internet marketing strategies. This is basically all about making it easy for search engines to find you so that more and more users can find your site and make you money. Sometimes less is more, so while you may be putting forth your effort into fancy SEO tactics, it can also prove useful to stick to some tried and true strategies that will get your site ranked where it needs to be. At the top.

Owning niche sites is essential for you to excel in niche marketing.  Every month, we give away a free niche site to one of our lucky Niche Titans newsletter subscribers!  Last month (March 2009) the winner received a fantastic niche site about Organic Baby Food. This month, we’ll leave the choice up to you, our readers!

Here are the few niches I’ve thought of, and why they’d be good niches.  Then, you can vote in the poll below.  The poll will only be open for 3 days, so vote now!   Also, leave a comment saying why you voted how you did! And don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter for a chance to win a free niche site! (Sign-ups are in the sidebar, and at the bottom of every post.)

  • Mortgages – People are definately spending less money in these tough economic times.  But, those searching for mortgage information are looking to spend money….hundreds of thousands of dollars most likely (over the next 30 years of course!)  Why not be the one to provide them with solid information, either leading them to the lending companies advertising on Adsense, or directly to lending and mortgage companies who pay you per sign-up.
  • Gardening – This is an evergreen niche (literally!)  An evergreen niche is a niche that is good year-round, and for years to come, despite any economic downturns.  People will always continue to garden and do lawn maintenance.  Why not have a site that provides them with solid information.  You can put Adsense ads on each post, while also providing Amazon links to seeds, gardening tools, and other essential supplies for the gardener on your site.
  • Resumes – With an unparalleled amount of people losing jobs than there’s been in the last few generations, many people are having to create or update their resumes.  For many people, they haven’t had to do this in years, and so they are looking to the web for how to do it again.  You can provide some solid information, then send them to a Clickbank product than can help people to create great resumes (and make you some good money!)
  • Self-Improvement – This is another evergreen niche as people are always trying to improve themselves.  There are many self-improvement books on the market, so this is a fantastic niche for Amazon consumers.   People like to spend money on themselves, especially if the product has a chance of improving their looks, condition, or personality.  This niche can solve people problems, which is one of the number one ways to get people to buy something, by solving a problem.

So, now you tell us!  Which one would you like to win?  Vote now, and don’t forget to sign up to our newsletter to be eligible to win!

Freebies and Giveaways to Draw Attention to Your Site

free
We are all aware that you have to give to get. In niche marketing, this is a necessary tool that you can use to set you apart from the many other sites out there offering a like service or product. No matter what it is, studies have shown that people will always respond first to something that is free- even if they don’t need it or want it! That is seriously the best way to hook your clientele with an offer they can’t refuse. Plus, it really shows that you believe in your business if you are willing to offer a giveaway and stand behind what you are selling on your site.

The first idea is to hold a contest on your site. Let’s brainstorm, shall we? If you have a site selling skin care products, then your contest can cater to giving away a basket of the newest skin care products that you are selling. Number one, people are going to want the free basket, are they not? And two, regardless of being a winner or loser, the visitor to your site will then have the interest in your newest products sparked in their brain. Contests are great link bait, since the notion of a prize can result in numerous new quality links to your site. Foolproof.

Next, you can begin to offer free samples in exchange for feedback. This is a hugely interactive way to get your visitors hooked on your site by making a connection with them. If your site sells baby clothes and accessories, then you can opt to advertise a free baby clothing item to all of your frequent buyers that give you comments or testimonials on your site. The users of your site will definitely bite, as this will set you apart as a site that wants to have a relationship with the visitors and users of their products. Every single consumer out there will be partial to a business that makes an effort to reward them for their purchases, because remember- they can always go somewhere else. And they know that too.

Lastly, build a tool collection on your site, as this is something that will be very popular to link to from other sites. People love useful reference tools, so think along the lines of a BMI calculator if you are a health or fitness site, or even an interactive bridal checklist that can be used to prepare a bride for her wedding day if your site is related to the wedding industry at all. Again, your customer will appreciate being rewarded for their loyal business to you with being able to use handy tools that pertain to their interests. This is a great time to get creative in building these tools because if you can think of something completely unique, then the odds of people linking to your resource will be that much higher. Creating a tool or collection of tools for the users on your website will stick out in all the minds of your visitors and have them coming back for more.

Remember, freebies and giveaways are easy ways to make your site worth even more in the eyes of the consumer. Even if people aren’t looking to buy from you just yet, they will be drawn to what’s in it for them, and from there, you have them coming back to check out your site again and again for like offers and tools that they can use. Online business should be useful and fun, and that’s what your visitors are looking for you to provide for them!
